Geoff Colvin
Dr. Geoff Colvin draws on his experience as a classroom
teacher, in both special and general education, and as a school
administrator, educational consultant, author, and research associate and
instructor at the University of Oregon.
He is a nationally and internationally recognized
educational and behavioral consultant who has assisted educators in more
than 200 school districts, Universities, and agencies on the subjects of
managing problem behavior, teaching challenging students, assessment,
instruction and school safety planning.
Dr. Colvin has authored and co-authored more than 80
publications, including a best seller book Managing the Cycle of
Acting-Out Behavior in the Classroom and the 2000 Telly Award winning
video program Defusing Anger and Aggression. As an administrator, he
directed a juvenile detention school for five years and served as the
principal for a county wide school program for youth with serious emotional
disturbance, also for five years. He was supervisor of special programs for
Bethel School District, Eugene, Oregon where he still serves as a
consultant. He worked at the University of Oregon for 15 years as a research
associate and was the principal investigator for several research grant
projects and now serves as an adjunct professor.
Dr. Colvin has a very special skill in being able to
translate theory into practice. He is able to present clear explanations and
analyses of learning and behavior and at the same time offer concrete
examples with hands-on illustrations. He is well known nationally and
internationally as an exceptional teacher and trainer.
His extensive knowledge and experience base, lively
speaking style and keen sense of humor have made him a highly sought-after
speaker at national and international conferences.
Presently, he serves as a national educational and
behavioral consultant and spends most of his time writing and developing
professional development materials for personnel working in the field.
