Understanding Co-occuring Disorders...Mental Health/Chemical Dependency and Their Intersection (Part 1 and 2)

 

Instructor:  Todd Mulliken, MS, LPCC, Owner of Mulliken Counseling center in Edina, Adjunct Psych professor, Consultant with MIPH and MPRC

 

Course objectives: 

  1. Learn about the most common co-occuring disorders.

  2. Learn about the risk factors for these disorders.

  3. Learn about the protective factors for these disorders.

  4. Learn tools to help effectively diagnose and treat these illnesses.

Establishing a Firm Foundation for Long Term Recovery

 

Instructor:  Dr. Steve Zvonar, DC, cWC, Consultant with MIPH

 

Studies have shown that health and well being is a strong protective factor for good mental health. As mental health is enhanced, the greater probability there is for long term recovery from addictions.  In this class we will discuss the four components of health and well being: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. We will take each of these areas and show to enhance health and energy.  Along the way we will discuss how good nutrition and exercise, the power of positive emotions, strong relationships and purpose in life, play a foundational role in a sustained recovery and living an impactful life.

Steve Zvonar

 Dr Steve Zvonar is a certified health coach and a Doctor of Chiropractic with a particular focus on the discipline of Functional Medicine.  He has been in private practice for over 25 years specializing in holistic treatment for neuromuscular conditions, chronic diseases and body/brain health.  He currently practices in Chisago City, MN.

As health coordinator for the MN Department of Transportation, he designed and implemented corporate fitness and health programs for 1500 employees. 

Dr Zvonar is an experienced speaker on such topics as natural health and nutrition, health and life coaching, the keys to change and thriving through stress.  He is an annual speaker at the MARRCH (Minnesota Association of Resources for Recovery and Chemical Health) conference and a regular guest lecturer at Metro State University.  He has spoke at number of other conferences and trainings throughout Minnesota regarding the positive effects of health and life coaching in the prevention (and recovery) of drug and alcohol abuse.

He is currently a consultant for the Minnesota Institute of Public Health working on a seniors alcohol abuse prevention project. Dr Zvonar resides in Center City with his wife Carrie (also a chiropractor and wellness coach for Medica) and has three children.
