The purpose of this course is to provide students with an opportunity to examine the causes of behavior in the home, school, and community settings. During the course we will explore the relationship between behavior and environmental antecedents and consequences, and examine how environmental variables may be manipulated in order to increase appropriate behavior and decrease inappropriate behavior. Also, parent-child and teacher-student interaction patterns, data collection techniques, and legal and moral guidelines for the use of behavior change procedures will be reviewed.

  • Students will become familiar with the foundations of behavior management.
  • Students will learn to understand behavior and design effective interventions through assessment and single subject research designs.
  • Students will become skillful in practical applications of behavior management interventions designed to increase and decrease behavior.
