Kathi Wilhite
Kathi Wilhite serves as the Regional Consultant for
Exceptional Children in the Northeast Region of North Carolina. Employed at
East Carolina University through a grant with the NC Department of Public
Instruction, Dr. Wilhite also teaches courses in the area of emotional and
behavioral disorders. Her professional experience spans more than 27 years
and includes classroom teaching in self-contained, resource, and integrated
settings; local school special education administration; consultant work
with two state departments of education; and university teaching.
Dr. Wilhite has been active in the International
Council for Children with Behavior Disorders (CCBD) and has served as the
International Member-at-Large as well as state CCBD president in Indiana and
North Carolina. She currently serves the CCBD Foundation as the Director of
Development. Dr. Wilhite has also been an active member of the International
Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), International Council for
Administrators of Special Education (CASE), and their respective state
organizations. She is a member of the Board of Directors for the Behavioral
Institute for Children and Adolescents (BICA) and serves as secretary. Dr.
Wilhite has been involved with numerous other state and local boards and
organizations in the areas of special education, mental health, and
emotional/behavioral disorders.
Dr. Wilhite has published in the areas of emotional and
behavioral disorders, state policy and procedures, and higher education. She
provides training to local school districts and other professional groups.
Her primary areas of interest include positive behavioral support, classroom
management, mentoring, legal issues in special education, and collaboration.
